The results of this student survey provide information for quality assurance in teaching and learning. All students are invited to describe their situation, conditions of studies, learning experiences etc. The results are relevant to processes of course development and accreditation; they will be interpreted and discussed in various institutes and at different levels of Goethe University. Thus the results of the survey will provide an important contribution to the ongoing improvement of academic conditions at Goethe University.

The study was designed by employees of the department Global Affairs Study and Teaching at Goethe University in collaboration with an interdisciplinary internal task force including members of different status levels. The study is being conducted and coordinated by employees of the department Global Affairs Study and Teaching.

The survey is being conducted using Questback Essentials' tool for online surveys. For more information on Questback follow the link below.

Participation in the university-wide student survey is voluntary. For every question, you can decide yourself whether you would like to answer or simply go on to the next question. You can end or interrupt your participation in the survey at any time without incurring any kind of penalty.

During the course of the survey, your data will be hosted on external servers by Oracle Deutschland B.V. & Co. KG at Oracle Deutschland B.V. & Co. KG, Frankfurt am Main locations. For this purpose, data may be transmitted outside the EU or the EEA.

After the end of the survey, data will be stored strictly separated from personal data such as addresses on internal servers; personal data will be deleted immediately after the end of the survey.

As part of the survey, you will be asked for consent for us to use internal university data about you to analyze the survey data. The advantage of this is that it will significantly reduce the length of the questionnaire. During the survey you will be notified which type of information is involved (e.g. the type of university entrance qualification you have). If you grant your consent for use of this data, it will be analyzed in the context of the survey data. If you do not grant consent, we will not use the internal data and will instead request that you answer the relevant (additional) questions in the questionnaire. Of course, answering these questions is voluntary.

The data from this student survey can prospectively be linked to data from other internal university surveys whose aim is to promote quality assurance in teaching and learning (these include surveys of students and graduates, e.g. KOAB). The aim of this linking of data is to make it less burdensome for current and former students to participate in surveys for students and graduates of Goethe University. By using answers you have already provided in other surveys, we can omit them from later questionnaires. This linking will only be performed if you have granted your consent by accepting the data privacy statement in each of the surveys in question. Of course, this consent can be withdrawn at any time.

The results of the study will be analyzed in the aggregate only and will be displayed in tables and graphs, among other forms. Thus, the analyses and reports will always be completely anonymous and it will not be possible at all to draw conclusions about individuals. These aggregated results will contribute to the university's organizational development. Additionally, the results will be reported in scientific publications.

Results will be displayed in anonymous form only; for example, they will be summarized in tables and graphs. For your answers to be analyzed, at least five answers must have been given for each given item. This means that no one will be able to conclude from the results which individual gave the answers.

The data will be archived in pseudonymous form for 10 years; no personal data which could identify you (e.g. your name, or address) will be saved in the data set. Your personal identity will be subsequently derived using the pseudonymous code solely to protect your rights (see “What are my rights?"). Only certain employees from the department Global Affairs Study and Teaching are able to do this, and they are contractually obligated to treat the data confidentially.

Regarding your personal data, you can request Goethe University to grant you the following rights:

  • Right to information
  • Right to correction
  • Right to deletion (the right to “be forgotten")
  • Right to limit data processing
  • Right to transferability of data
